i think i'm not sure but i think that sterling silver will last longer. it may get a little tarnished but all you have to do is buy a silver jewelry cleaning cloth (it already has the jewelry cleaner in the cloth) you can buy it at a tiffany & co. store. i bought mine at a jewelry store in my mall just ask if they have a silver jewelry cleaner preferably a cloth.
